Amateurs approach a rack ball by ball. Professionals read it like a sentence — all at once, backwards from the last ball to the first. Pattern play is that literacy, and it can be learned.

## Find the Key Ball First

Every rack hides one ball that unlocks the rest — the problem ball, the tie-up, the one that needs a precise angle to solve. Identify it first, then build the whole pattern backwards from the eight.

## The Three-Second Scan

Before you touch the cue ball, ask three questions: which ball is the problem, which sequence leaves it easy, and where does the cue ball finish on the money ball. If you can't answer all three, you're not ready to shoot.
